The law states that carers have the right to ask for an assessment of their needs as a carer.
A Carers Assessment is your chance to talk about ways that will help you maintain a healthy balance between work, leisure and your caring commitments. It is an opportunity for us to find out what level of help you are providing for the person you care for, how much care you are providing at the moment and any extra support you may be able to get.
Social Services will refer carers to the Community Council of Shropshire so that we can visit them to find out how much help they need.
You can make an appointment to see one of our Carer Support Workers by calling the CCS Helpline on 01743 341995.
Before the meeting, you might want to consider the following things:
- Services that give you a break
- Emotional support from other carers or people who understand
- Help with household tasks
- Help with care during the day or night
- Benefits advice
- Activities for the person you care for.
