A carer is someone who looks after a relative, friend or disabled person who needs their support to live at home.
The Community Council of Shropshire offers support and information to all carers over the age of 18. This service is called Shropshire Carers.
The Shropshire Carers service is committed to improving the lives of the known 30,000 family carers who live in the county. Shropshire Carers also offers specialist support for the following groups of people:
- Older carers
- Carers of people with mental health needs
- Carers of adults with learning disabilities
A telephone Helpline 01743 341995 is available during office hours for carers who need to talk to someone about their needs or problems. Carers can also call this number to find out about other organisations and groups who offer advice and support.
The Shropshire Carers team includes highly-trained Carer Support Workers who are based at the CCS offices in Shrewsbury. Carer Support Workers will visit people at home to help with a wide range of issues, including:

- Information about benefits
- Help with filling in forms
- Advice about other support services
- Details of local transport services
- Contact with Carers Support Groups
- Information about respite care
The Shropshire Carers service at the Community Council is funded by Shropshire County Council Community Services.
