The CDT has been developing a range of linking community-based falls prevention projects to provide information and/or activities for older people to help prevent falls, and to increase their confidence, mobility and independence. The projects will also help prevent deterioration in health and avoid admissions to hospital or residential care.
The CDT work with partners such as the Shropshire Health Improvement Service and the Shropshire and Staffordshire Prevention of Falls Project. Current projects include:
- Banana Skins: Helping Older People Avoid Falls
- Banana Skins: A Falls Prevention Video
The 'Banana Skins; Helping Older People Avoid Falls' video was produced to help older people reduce the risk of falls. It is designed for older people rather than health professionals. The video provides information that older people will respond to positively by addressing the fear of falling. This video highlights ways of reducing risk factors in an amusing and entertaining format.
The 'Banana Skins: A Falls Prevention Video' is aimed at health professionals and those involved in community-based health and social care activities for older people. It is intended to be included as part of wider falls prevention, falls awareness and home safety talks, discussion groups and clinics. The Banana skins Video is available free to workers in Shropshire, and at a charge of £10 including postage and packing from outside the County.
