Title: Our Organisation

The Community Council of Shropshire (CCS) is an independent organisation that was established in November 1960 and has been operational from 1st April 1961.

CCS is one of 38 Rural Community Councils operating throughout England and is funded by the Government, Shropshire County Council and membership subscription. Additional support for project work comes from Shropshire County Council, Local District Councils, Charitable Trusts and donations.

CCS was registered as a charity in July 1963 and is governed by a Constitution that was amended on 23rd March 2000.

On 30th June 2003, CCS assets were transferred to a new Company Limited by Guarantee (company number 4652487) with charitable status (charity number 1096779).

In 2003/04 CCS income exceeded £1 million. In that year, CCS employed almost 30 paid staff and more than 100 volunteers to deliver a wide range of services and projects.

A Board of Directors is responsible for strategic management of the organisation. Members are elected at the AGM and the Board meets quarterly. There are a number of sub-committees with responsibilities for matters such as:
