A Parish Plan is a statement of how a local community sees itself developing over the next few years. It is based on a survey of local opinions, needs and aspirations carried out by the community itself.
A Parish Plan reflects the views of all sections of the community and identifies which features and local characteristics people value. The Parish Plan also identifies local problems and opportunities.
A Parish Plan spells out how residents want to see their community develop in the future, and their agreed Action Plan will help them achieve this vision. In particular, a Parish Plan will:
- Bring the community closer together with a common goal.
- Improve communications between the Parish Council and local people.
- Address concerns about issues such as transport, housing or local environmental changes.
- Seek residents' views about a particular project, such as the need for a children's playground in the area or improvements to public footpaths.
- Provide an Action Plan for the future.
If you produce a Parish Plan, you will help preserve or record the things that people value and you will have a formal document outlining local opinions, needs, priorities and aspirations. You will also have an Action Plan for the future.
The Community Regeneration Officers at the Community Council of Shropshire will provide free advice and support with the production of a Parish Plan. Help will also be available from you relevant Local Authority.
Grants are available to cover the cost of producing the Parish Plan and the Community Council of Shropshire will help with accessing these funds.
