
The entry conditions for the Calor Village of the Year say that judges are looking for:
'Well balanced, pro-active, caring village communities which, irrespective of size, have made the best of local opportunities to maintain and enhance the quality of life for all inhabitants.'
To take part in the national Calor Village of the Year for England competition for 2006, villages must first take part in a county competition and/or be nominated for the Calor Village of the Year for England. Competing villages must not have a population of more than 5000.
There are five regions in the competition:
- North England
- South England
- West England
- East England
- Central England
Shropshire is situated in the West England region along with Avonside, Cornwall, Devon, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Somerset, Wiltshire and Worcestershire.
There are five categories that make up the Calor Village of the Year for England:
Category 1 Building Community Life
Category 2 Business
Category 3 Young People
Category 4 Older People
Category 5 Environment
The deadlines for the 2006 Calor Village of the Year for England competition are:
Competition launch Monday 20th February 2006
Closing date for entries Friday 28th April 2006
Judging dates Wednesday 17th May 2006
Announcement of winner Monday 5th June 2006
Presentation evening Saturday 17th June
